LW-PARC is a group of young mums who live in Llanwrtyd who have raised money to purchase new equipment for the toddler play area in town.
Councillors June Newman and Ainsley Jones produce the local monthly magazine Grapevine*, and had some surplus money which they wanted to donate to a new community venture. They approached the local Playgroup, and from there an open meeting was held where a small number of parents attended to share ideas on what would be needed and how to raise the necessary finance.
A committee was set up, comprising of Linsey Davies, Penny Lowe and Gemma Powell, however lots of people were involved in raising funds for the group. The funds were kick started with a £1,500 donation from Grapevine. CELT donated £2.700 and £900 was raised by an Evening of Clairvoyance held in Victoria Hall. Match funding of £600 was donated by Barclays Bank, and a Fashion Show at the Victoria Hall raised a further £400. The Epynt Motor Club donated £564 from the Mewla Rally, and personal donations from members of the community have also been made and finally the groups were given a grant by Powys County Council, meaning the group have raised in excess of £15,000, which has enabled them to commission work to be done on the area which now has some great new play equipment for little ones.
The group has done a fantastic job raising the money and getting the equipment in place. On behalf of Llanwrtyd Town Council I would like to offer a big Thank You to Linsey, Penny and Gemma for all their hard work and commitment, plus another big Thank You to everyone who has donated money or helped in any way to raise funds. Any further offers of help will be very much appreciate to purchase more equipment, and for maintenance and upgrading of the site.
LW-PARC would like to thank BSW Sawmills for providing the bark, Andrew Davies for providing the transport and all those who helped made the project a success.
* Grapevine is produced with the kind support of Llanwrtyd Town Council and Charcroft Electronics.
